Lagos State has celebrated the impressive performance of its student robotics teams at the 2025 World Robot Olympiad in Singapore, where young innovators showcased solutions with real potential for future MSME and tech-sector impact.
Led by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, the 17-member delegation represented Nigeria across multiple categories, competing among 3,300 participants from 112 countries. Lagos teams delivered strong performances, earning top positions in Africa and recognition as one of the highest users of WRO robotics learning platforms.
Innovations included:
• SMART GUARD BOT — an AI-powered electrical fault-detection robot built by Okesuna Junior Secondary School, placing 2nd in Africa.
• Solar-Powered AI Agricultural Robot — developed by Government Technical College, Ikotun, ranked 3rd in Africa.
• Robo Mission Projects — by New Era Senior High School and New Era Girls Junior Secondary School, both finishing among Africa’s best.

The prototypes align with real-world needs in electrical safety, precision agriculture, sustainability, and smart automation — areas that increasingly shape the growth of MSMEs and Nigeria’s wider digital economy.
Officials noted that the strong outing reflects Lagos State’s expanding investments in STEM education and robotics, building a talent pipeline that can support future startups, engineering firms, and innovation-driven small businesses.
