The Lagos State Government has resumed the demolition of illegal shops attached to the Idumota pedestrian bridge as part of efforts to maintain order and improve pedestrian movement in the area.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

He stated that the joint operation, carried out by the Office of Drainage Services and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), targeted structures encroaching on the bridge and its surroundings to enhance accessibility and eliminate safety risks.

“In a joint operation between operatives from the Office of Drainage Services and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, clearance operation resumed in Idumota, removing illegal shops attached to the pedestrian bridge,” Wahab stated.

In February 2025, authorities demolished unauthorized structures at Obalende Under-Bridge, citing security concerns and environmental hazards.

In January 2025, the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department cleared drainage-blocking structures along Langbasa and Orchid Road in Eti-Osa LGA to prevent flooding.

Earlier in October 2024, similar demolition exercises were carried out in Akoka, Yaba, targeting structures obstructing drainage channels.

The Lagos State Government has continuously warned traders and residents against encroaching on public infrastructure, reiterating that enforcement actions will persist to reclaim public spaces and improve urban planning.
