The Lagos State Government has issued a 72-hour eviction notice to illegal traders and squatters occupying setbacks from POWA Gate to Dolphin Gate on Lagos Island.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the directive on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing a video of the bustling commercial activities in the area.
The footage captured traders selling yams, tomatoes, and rice under umbrellas while wheelbarrow pushers navigated through the crowded space.
This move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to clear illegal structures and reclaim public spaces.

Similar actions in recent months have led to the removal of makeshift stalls in Savage, Elegbata, and Bombata, as well as unauthorized structures beneath the Apongbon Bridge.
In January, the government also demolished illegal constructions beneath high-tension power lines, citing safety hazards.
Authorities stress that these measures aim to restore order, improve environmental conditions, and enhance public safety. Business owners and residents affected by the notices are advised to relocate to legally designated areas.
