Kwara distributes agricultural equipment to 2,019 farmers

The Kwara State Government has rolled out its third phase of intervention under the Kwara Fadama CARES program. The initiative, aimed at providing support to indigent farmers, saw 2,019 beneficiaries receiving agricultural asset items.

The distribution ceremony, which took place in Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area (LGA), witnessed the unveiling by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq back in June 2022. Among the items distributed were knapsack sprayers equipped with personal protective equipment, fish smoking kilns, rain gun sprinklers, water pumping machines for fish farmers, poultry feeders and drinkers, as well as equipment for maize and soya bean farming.

Speaking at the event, Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated the government’s commitment to easing the hardships faced by farmers, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the distributed assets effectively to reduce hunger and poverty in the state. The governor, represented by Ishiaq Oloruko-Oba, Chairman of the State Fadama Technical Committee, emphasized the need for proper monitoring to ensure the judicious use of the assets and cautioned against their commercialization.

Busari Isiaka, the State Project Coordinator of Kwara Fadama CARES, highlighted the program’s alignment with the objectives of COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, with the support of Governor AbdulRazaq. He emphasized that the agricultural inputs and assets distributed were provided free of charge.

Reflecting on the impact of the intervention, Isiaka noted that a total of 6,561 farmers benefited from both input and asset distribution in the first phase, followed by 8,020 beneficiaries in the second phase.

Expressing gratitude for the timely intervention, Jamiu Ahmed, a beneficiary from the Ogo-Oluwa Farmers’ User Group in Ilorin West LGA, assured that farmers would utilize the resources responsibly to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
