The epicenter of Nigeria’s agricultural production, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, disclosed the state’s ambitious plans during a high-level meeting in Ilorin.
Addressing a delegation from the China-Africa Economic and Trade Council alongside representatives from the private sector, Thomas outlined the government’s strategy to transform Kwara into the country’s primary food hub.

The commissioner highlighted the pivotal role of ongoing investments in the agricultural sector, which prompted the visit of Chinese investors keen on exploring collaboration opportunities.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s directive to engage with these investors underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging external expertise and resources for sustainable agricultural development.
Thomas emphasized that the partnership aims to address key challenges across the agricultural value chain, including input procurement, production efficiency, processing capacity, and market connectivity.
During the delegation’s tour, visits were made to various agricultural facilities, including rice farms, poultry operations, industrial parks, fertilizer blending plants, and rice mills, signaling a concerted effort towards enhancing agricultural infrastructure and productivity in Kwara.
The commissioner’s remarks underscore Kwara’s determination to harness its agricultural potential and emerge as a driving force in Nigeria’s quest for food security and economic prosperity.
