The decision follows consistent advocacy by the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Kogi State chapter, which in July 2024 called for the creation of a dedicated livestock ministry. The NVMA emphasized the need for a qualified veterinarian to lead the ministry, ensuring its effectiveness.
During the launch of the Private Veterinary Practice (PVP) program in December 2024, the NVMA reinforced the urgency of the ministry to sustain the achievements of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project.
With this strategic initiative, Kogi State aims to position itself as a leader in agricultural innovation, creating pathways for economic growth and resilience in the livestock industry.
