The Kogi State Government has earmarked $31.2 million for the development of a Livestock Service Centre, aimed at boosting the state’s economic growth. Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, the project coordinator for the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES), announced this on Thursday at the proposed site within the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.
The budget for the Livestock Service Centre spans several years: $4.05 million in 2024, $6.24 million in 2025, $9.98 million in 2026, and $10.92 million in 2027.
“The Kogi Livestock Service Centre will drive significant economic development in the state by creating jobs, enhancing productivity, and promoting sustainable practices,” Dr. Bolarin stated. “This project aims to be a hub for livestock innovation and development, enhancing market access, supporting industrial synergy, and fostering academic excellence.”

Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Timothy Ojoma, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and attracting investment to the state, highlighting previous successful security interventions.
National L-PRES Coordinator Sanusi Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the site preparation, while Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo assured the delegation of his administration’s dedication to the project’s success, reinforcing the collaboration with the World Bank.
