The Kebbi State Government has transferred ownership of a N300 million GSM Plaza to the Association of Handset Dealers and Technicians in a move to foster youth entrepreneurship.
The handover ceremony took place in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, led by Governor Nasir Idris, who emphasized the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities and promoting self-employment.
Governor Idris highlighted the limitations of government employment, stating, “No government can provide jobs for everyone. Our focus is to support people in becoming self-reliant through skill acquisition. He added that skill acquisition centers have been established across the state to encourage self-sufficiency.
A self-employed individual can earn more in a week than a government worker might in a month, he noted.

The governor clarified that the plaza, initially built by Olumbo Limited, was bought by the state government to prevent potential losses for tenants who faced eviction due to disputes with the original owners.
The plaza was acquired to support the association members, not for personal reasons, Comrade Idris stated.
This initiative aligns with the administration’s broader goal of empowering the youth through entrepreneurship.
