The Katsina State Government has completed the renovation of the Gidan Kuli groundnut oil mill in Kankia, reviving a facility that had been inactive for over three decades.
Expected to begin full operations soon, the upgraded oil mill will create over 500 direct and indirect jobs, stimulate agro-processing, and provide a ready market for local groundnut farmers.
The overhaul was carried out by the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV) and included the installation of modern equipment, administrative buildings, shops, and perimeter fencing.
Governor Dikko Radda described the facility as both an economic hub and a symbol of renewed commitment to agricultural heritage. Significantly, the mill will operate under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs to support female entrepreneurs in agro-processing.
“This centre will serve as an economic lifeline for thousands of women entrepreneurs across Katsina,” the governor stated, adding that the project aligns with his administration’s economic diversification agenda.
The move marks a strategic effort to re-establish groundnut production and processing as a key contributor to northern Nigeria’s economy.
