The effects of economic reforms introduced by the federal government have been keenly felt, with the cost of essential commodities such as maize, millet, and Guinea corn soaring by over 70 percent due to inflation and insecurity.
To address these challenges, the government has launched a multifaceted approach. A task force committee has been established to promote food security and curb the practices of grain merchants who artificially inflate prices through hoarding. Governor Dikko Radda has also announced the formation of another committee aimed at providing free food and cash assistance to 2.1 million vulnerable residents throughout Ramadan.

Under this initiative, an estimated 72,200 people will be fed daily during the holy month. Additionally, the government has subsidized the price of grains to 20,000 naira per bag, with a limit of ten measures per individual purchase.
Governor Radda stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in the distribution process. Local government committees have been directed to remit proceeds from grain sales to the state committee for deposit into government accounts.
Chairman of the grains distribution committee, Mallam Khalil Musa Kofar Bai, along with other members, reassured residents of the state of their commitment to ensuring a fair and efficient distribution process.
