The Kaduna State Government has announced a new initiative aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants, unveiling a fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to provide free transportation for workers across the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Musa, shared this in a statement on Thursday, emphasizing that the program aligns with the administration’s commitment to uplifting the lives of workers and supporting vulnerable and underserved residents.

The buses will provide free daily commutes for civil servants, a measure Musa described as a strategic step to ease transportation costs and enhance workforce productivity.

He added that a Joint Management Committee—comprising representatives from organized labor unions, including the NLC and TUC, and the State Government—will oversee the Free Transportation Scheme, ensuring smooth operations for workers’ benefit.

“The Kaduna State Government remains dedicated to implementing impactful social welfare policies. We are committed to creating programs that uplift the less privileged and make Kaduna a model for social welfare interventions,” the statement read.

In a similar move to boost civil servants’ welfare, Governor Uba Sani has approved a new minimum wage of ₦72,000, effective November 2024, reinforcing the state’s commitment to improving workers’ livelihoods amid rising living costs.
