Kaduna State AGRA establishes three processing centres for women, employs 300,000 farmers

Kaduna State AGRA Corporation Project has opened three maize and rice processing centers in Kaduna, as part of its efforts to empower women farmers in rural communities.

The alliance also revealed that it has successfully engaged 300,000 farmers in measures aimed at increasing food production in the state.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the maize processing center at Unguwar Alkaki community of Zaria Local Council, AGRA Program Director Dr. Esther Ibrahim said the centers will serve a means to enable women to Take care and do not depend on others.

She revealed that one center will be used for maize processing, while the other two will serve as rice processing centers. Alkaki added that the group is ready to support farmers in the above-mentioned areas to help them grow more crops.

“We have been able to establish demonstration farms in Kudan, Kauru and other places. We have given farmers a quarter of a hectare of land to grow corn, cowpeas, rice and tomatoes among other things.

Also speaking, AGRA Team Leader, Kaduna State Association Project, Professor Chris Daudu, disclosed that the corporation had successfully engaged 300,000 farmers in measures to increase food production in the state.

Speaking in an interview soon after presenting an overview of the program at NAERLS Zaria, Prof Daudu asserted that currently, they are engaging farmers in 18 councils out of the 23 councils in the state.

The team leader noted that the general idea of ​​the project is to solve the resilience problems that most farmers face today. He listed some of these challenges as low agricultural productivity, low income, climate change, security, issues related to farming, crop management and marketing.
