Kaduna State has achieved a significant milestone in 2023, leading internal revenue generation among Nigeria’s 19 northern states, according to a recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The state generated over N58 billion in 2023, a marked increase from previous years, showcasing a model of resilience and efficient tax administration amid economic challenges.
Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Jerry Adams, attributed the accomplishment to Governor Uba Sani’s policies focused on financial inclusion and an expanded tax base.
He highlighted that the administration’s efforts to automate tax processes and introduce a one-stop-tax portal, known as the “Pay Kaduna Portal,” have streamlined tax payments for residents, reducing the need for physical visits to tax offices.

Through this system, taxpayers can now pay various taxes—including Withholding Tax and Stamp Duty Tax—online, which has minimized revenue leakages.
Adams noted that Governor Sani’s administration has widened the tax net without raising tax rates, a strategy that has increased compliance and voluntary contributions. This horizontal expansion approach, introduced in July last year, contrasts with previous methods that caused stagnation.
“The government’s people-centered policies have encouraged businesses to return to Kaduna State,” Adams said, adding that Governor Sani’s business-friendly approach has been instrumental in driving the state’s revenue growth. Furthermore, investments in infrastructure—such as road construction and new schools—have improved taxpayer confidence, leading to a rise in voluntary compliance under the slogan “Tax For Service.”
KADIRS has encouraged citizens to fulfill their tax obligations promptly, particularly for property tax and ground rents, and reminded businesses to remit Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) taxes on time.
Adams expressed optimism that, with continued support from Governor Sani, Kaduna State will further enhance its internal revenue generation efforts in the years to come.
