In a strategic move to supercharge Nigeria’s digital economy, the Federal Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed a $30 million grant deal to establish tech-driven Start-Up Hubs in Abuja.
The initiative, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, will be executed by NITDA and NSIA, targeting early-stage businesses and social startups. NITDA will manage a $9.9 million facility development, while NSIA leads a $21 million project focused on creating an enabling environment for SMEs.
Startups will benefit from cutting-edge workspaces, digital tools, incubation programs, and access to global mentorship networks.

The project also aims to deepen Nigeria-Japan tech ties through exchange programs and international exposure for Nigerian entrepreneurs.
Implementation kicks off in April 2025 and will run till 2030, providing steady support for youth-led innovation, job creation, and enterprise growth.
With Japan prioritizing its contractors but allowing for local sourcing, the initiative sets a new pace for Africa-Asia SME collaboration.
