The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is set to roll out the first phase of its Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) program next week, targeting the training of 100,000 artisans across Nigeria.

This program aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate for the ITF to equip 5 million Nigerian artisans annually with essential skills, tools, and resources, addressing the nation’s unemployment challenges.

Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, the ITF’s Director-General and Chief Executive, revealed these plans during the inaugural meeting for the implementation of SUPA in Abuja. He stressed that the program is designed to enhance the skills and capacity of the Nigerian workforce.

Dr. Ogun underscored the importance of upskilling artisans for Nigeria’s economic development, technological growth, and market adaptability. He mentioned that each trade’s curriculum has been developed with input from sector skills councils, including the Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (IPMN) and various trade unions.

The list of the first batch of artisans and their training centers will be published in newspapers. Selection criteria include being a Nigerian national and having registered between January and March 15 of this year. Dr. Ogun encouraged those who missed the initial registration to revisit the portal, assuring them that SUPA is an ongoing initiative with opportunities in subsequent phases.
