The recent announcement by the federal government regarding the potential disbursement of N10 million to each of 5,000 selected NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) members has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media platform X.
While the proposal aims to provide substantial financial support to a selected group of corp members, many users are calling for a more equitable approach, suggesting that increasing the general allowances for all NYSC members should be prioritized first.
“10 million naira each for 5,000 corp members? I’m not saying it’s not realistic nor achievable but how about we start from increasing the allowance? That’s a good start for empowerment if we “actually” want to “empower 5,000 entrepreneurial NYSC corp members”.
“Na today we they hear all this empowerment to nysc nothing will still come out last last”

“I wish one day empowerment and employment in Nigeria would be a normal thing. Where a graduate finishes NYSC and they’ll be a job waiting for him or her. Not having to worry or feel depressed like the way thousands of young talented youth are right now.”
“They should set up Center for Entrepreneurship Management to mentor these young entrepreneurs before disbursing this fund!”
“these are handouts. the young bloods don’t need this. the financial institutions should be strengthened for purposes like this. FG should face its job & give the seniors these handouts.”
“Tactics to quell any mass protests. Sell them hopes, so that the educated ones will convince themselves that they protest isn’t for them, as the govt has plans for them”
“If they should take that 50 billion and divide over 100 thousands corpers if they’re up to that number, 500k is still a good business startup amount if the fg was m been honest”
The varied responses from corps members underscore a mix of skepticism, calls for practical empowerment measures, and a desire for tangible solutions to youth unemployment in Nigeria
