Hyundai Nigeria has introduced a new lineup of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles for various automobile users across the country. Assembled locally, the models include the Hyundai Grand i10, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Creta, and Hyundai Tucson, marking a significant step in support of the federal government’s autogas initiative under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative.
Mr. Gaurav Vashisht, Head of Sales and Marketing for Hyundai Nigeria, a subsidiary of the Stallion Group, explained that the locally assembled CNG vehicles are designed for a wide range of customers, from retail buyers to corporate clients.
“For example, the CNG Grand i10 is aimed at fleet owners and first-time buyers, focusing on vehicle reliability and low ownership costs,” Vashisht stated. He added that the company aims to offer customers tropicalised, affordable vehicles equipped with factory-fitted CNG facilities, as opposed to relying on unsafe, imported used vehicles converted to CNG.
“Our latest models, including the Grand i10, Accent, Creta, and Tucson, feature factory-fitted CNG kits with bulletproof CNG cylinders that are safer and more space-efficient than petrol tanks, unlike conventional converted vehicles,” he explained.

To enhance accessibility, Hyundai Nigeria has also introduced auto finance options for buyers unable to make a one-time payment for the CNG vehicles.
Highlighting the environmental benefits, Vashisht noted that CNG emits significantly less carbon than traditional fossil fuels, making these vehicles a more environmentally friendly option. He emphasized that CNG vehicles offer a significant cost advantage, as owners pay the equivalent of about N300 per litre compared to the current N1000 per litre for petrol.
The new CNG models boast a combination of style, economy, strength, and safety. The sporty CNG Grand i10 features a multi-point injected engine with automatic transmission, as well as safety elements such as Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Rear Parking Assist System (RPAS), and dual airbags.
The CNG Accent comes with a robust body structure, six airbags, ABS, a rearview camera, safety windows, and a 1.5 MPi engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The compact crossover Hyundai Creta offers advanced features like Rear Parking Sensors, a 6-airbag system, Cruise Control, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission powered by a smart engine built with Dual Variable Valve Timing for enhanced performance.
Finally, the CNG Tucson is equipped with a Smartstream 2.0-litre engine paired with a smart transmission that adapts gear shift intervals based on recent driving patterns, providing a tailored driving experience.
