House of Rep assures support for Karu Market fire victims

During an assessment visit to Karu Market in the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Fredrick Agbedi, Chairman of the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, pledged immediate support to victims of a recent fire outbreak. Expressing concern over the devastating impact on the local economy, Agbedi assured affected traders of swift intervention by the Federal Government.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to all traders who have suffered losses in this unfortunate incident,” Agbedi stated. He emphasized the House’s commitment to facilitating federal assistance for the affected individuals, acknowledging their integral role in FCT’s development.

Efforts are underway to collaborate with Abuja Municipal Area Council, market unions, and federal agencies to provide relief. Agbedi also called upon National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant bodies to mitigate the disaster’s effects.

Christopher Maikalangu, AMAC Chairman, highlighted the widespread damage, noting the urgent need for intervention among the market’s 1,300 affected traders. Joseph Narai, Chief of Karu, and Suleiman Haliru, Chairman of the market’s Board of Trustees, echoed the call for immediate support and enhanced market safety measures.
