At the TeXcellence 2024 conference, discussions centered on Nigeria’s digital access barriers, with affordability emerging as a key concern. Over 71% of Nigerians reportedly struggle to maintain regular internet connectivity due to high costs, an issue raised during the event by industry experts.
They emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to expand digital inclusion and drive economic growth, with the telecommunications sector currently contributing 14% to Nigeria’s GDP.

Speakers highlighted the need for innovation in areas like financial inclusion, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT), especially as the country faces economic pressures and currency devaluation. Plans to build advanced data centers and expand next-generation services are intended to improve connectivity nationwide.
Achieving affordable internet access, they noted, could help realize Nigeria’s vision of a trillion-dollar economy, benefiting both individuals and the broader economy through increased digital participation and economic opportunities.
