The Ekiti State Government has unveiled a six-month rent-free initiative for street traders, offering stalls and shops at key markets, including Oja Oba, Agric-Olope, and Awedele. This move aims to curb street trading and stimulate business activity in the state.
Speaking during a simulcast broadcast across Ekiti and parts of Ondo State, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola, the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, announced the plan.
The initiative marks the second anniversary of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration and seeks to occupy vacant shops while supporting small traders.

Mrs. Adeola emphasized that this policy shifts shop rentals from long-term, 15-year leases to more manageable annual agreements, starting with a six-month rent-free period. Traders will be responsible for utility bills, including electricity and sanitation, to ensure market cleanliness.
Interested traders are encouraged to apply for space at the Oja Oba market’s facility management office, submitting their personal and business details for registration.
