Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a robust economic environment conducive to trade, investment, and local enterprise growth in Lagos. This commitment was emphasized on Wednesday at the opening of the 2024 China Commodities EXPO Nigeria, held at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized that strong international partnerships are essential to attract foreign investments that will drive infrastructure expansion and create job opportunities in Lagos. “As Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos plays a pivotal role in advancing economic progress and innovation. Our administration is committed to creating an environment that actively promotes trade, encourages investments, and supports local businesses,” he stated.
Highlighting the China Commodities Expo as more than just an exhibition, the governor described it as a testament to Lagos State’s dedication to strengthening international trade relations. He noted that the event, especially critical amid evolving global economies and technological advancements, provides a valuable platform for both Nigerian and Chinese businesses to collaborate, explore innovative solutions, and expand business networks.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that partnerships in manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, and technology are critical for Lagos’s development goals. He hailed Lagos as a gateway to global trade and investment, driven by a culture of innovation, commerce, and openness to collaboration. “As we open the doors to this Expo, we also open doors to opportunities that will enrich our communities and build a legacy of economic growth,” he added.
The Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Jin Mingyu, also underscored the importance of the expo. He described it as a bridge fostering understanding and cooperation between Chinese and Nigerian businesses, reinforcing the deepening strategic trust and alignment between both nations’ development agendas.
