Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has earmarked 500 hectares of land for cassava farming across the state’s 11 local government areas. This initiative, part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to revolutionize agriculture and enhance food security.
The project was announced at an expanded security council meeting led by Governor Yahaya in Gombe. He instructed each local government council to designate 40 hectares for cassava cultivation, highlighting cassava’s nutritional benefits and its adaptability to various climates.
Governor Yahaya stressed that the focus on cassava is not only to increase agricultural output but also to tackle hunger and food scarcity, aiming to make Gombe State a cassava production hub in Africa. The governor is optimistic that this initiative will attract traders and investors, boosting the state’s economy.

He referenced a recent visit to Morocco, where he and his delegation studied advanced agricultural practices to implement in Gombe. Local council chairpersons were directed to allocate land and support farmers to ensure the project’s success.
Sani Ahmad Haruna, Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, pledged full commitment to the initiative, expressing confidence in its potential to advance the state’s agricultural development.
