Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has signed an Executive Order mandating the relocation of spare parts and allied trade markets from Coal Camp and other neighborhoods in the Enugu Capital Territory to the new Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Park along the Enugu-Onitsha Road in Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, attended by Attorney General Dr. Kingsley Udeh and leaders of Enugu’s spare parts dealers, Governor Mbah assured traders that the new market would address challenges faced in Coal Camp.

“This is a purpose-built market with all necessary infrastructure, including safety codes, fire service, a clinic, truck parks, and residential areas for traders to live close to their businesses,” Mbah stated.

Construction is already underway, with roads being opened and buildings under development. The governor assured that traders would relocate within months to a modern trading hub that enhances business efficiency.

Traders Hail Governor’s Commitment

President of the Enugu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, Chief Michael Nomeh, expressed gratitude, highlighting that past governments had failed to deliver on relocation promises since 1999.

“This is the first time a governor is fulfilling his campaign promise to relocate us to a modern international market,” Nomeh said.

Strategic Economic Impact

The Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, emphasized that the new location is strategic for trade, connecting the Middle Belt, South-South, and Cameroon to Onitsha.

“This project is key to our drive for a $30 billion GDP. It offers traders ownership opportunities, better facilities, and an organized trading environment,” he stated.

The new spare parts market will feature:

Governor Mbah reiterated his commitment to economic growth and urban development, positioning Enugu as a major commercial and industrial hub.
