Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans for a Youth Engagement and Empowerment Rally on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Uyo Township Stadium. This initiative will flag off a special program designed to empower 5,000 youths across the state.

Speaking at the September edition of the State Government Monthly Covenant Prayer Service in Uyo, Governor Eno emphasized that the rally is part of his promise to honor the youth of the state.

He acknowledged the youth for heeding his advice to avoid participating in the recent nationwide protests that posed security risks.

The rally will bring together 200 youths from each of the state’s 31 local government areas (LGAs) as representatives. During the event, details of the engagement and empowerment packages will be shared, and a list of beneficiaries from each LGA will be published for verification.

Governor Eno assured the public that the SMEs selected for empowerment are genuine and verified through extensive needs assessments.

“We will empower Small and Medium Enterprises from across the state. We have 2,000 selected SMEs, and their names will be published for public verification,” the governor said. He further explained that these efforts are aimed at boosting socio-economic growth within the state.

Additionally, Governor Eno disclosed that the government will begin distributing food items directly to the less privileged, cutting out agents as middlemen to ensure transparency.

He also used the occasion to reaffirm the state’s commitment to expanding Ibom Air’s fleet with the outright purchase of two Bombardier 900 CRJ aircraft, a move he believes will generate dividends for the state in the long term.

In a related development, the governor announced that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would kick off local government election campaigns on Thursday, September 12. He urged party members to work diligently to secure victories across all 31 LGAs, while assuring citizens that the elections would be free and fair.
