The Niger State Government has rolled out a new agricultural program aimed at empowering farmers with essential inputs for dry season farming, part of Governor Umaru Bago’s grassroots-focused agricultural revolution.
The initiative seeks to increase food production and enhance food security across the state.
During a town hall meeting in preparation for the 2024/2025 farming season, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Bawa Bosso, revealed that the program would provide farmers with fertilizers, quality seeds, and other critical inputs.
To participate, farmers must register with their full details, including name, gender, date of birth, phone number, identification, and GPS coordinates.

Supported by Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics Company Ltd., the initiative targets farmers across all three Senatorial zones. Executive Director, Mrs. Patience Koku, assured that loans for inputs would be repaid with either harvested produce or low-interest credit, focusing on genuine farmers to prevent past setbacks.
Farmers are encouraged to form cooperatives to benefit from the scheme, which aims to cultivate crops such as rice, maize, and vegetables. Local council chairmen were urged to take ownership of the project, ensuring effective collaboration with agricultural directors and extension agents to reach genuine farmers.
