The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on market women to maintain fair pricing of food items as the festive season approaches. She made the appeal during the 2024 Ebonyi Women’s Day Celebration held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
“With the Yuletide season fast approaching, I want to plead with all our market women to refrain from unfair hikes in the prices of food items during the festive season,” Mrs. Tinubu urged.
As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a social investment program aimed at uplifting women, the First Lady donated N50 million, 20,000 wrappers, shoes, and bags to support women’s businesses in the state.
She commended the event’s theme, “Uplifting Women for Sustainable Development,” as timely and relevant, acknowledging the critical role of women in national progress. Mrs. Tinubu also applauded the women of Ebonyi for their unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and Governor Francis Nwifuru during the last elections.

During an interaction with traditional rulers at the Presidential Lodge in Abakaliki, Mrs. Tinubu expressed gratitude for their efforts in fostering peace within the state and urged them to continue supporting the government through prayers and advocacy.
“Nigeria has everything it takes to be a great nation. We must continue to bless this land, and I appeal to you, our traditional rulers, to lead in that regard,” she said.
Governor Nwifuru lauded the First Lady for her impactful visit, emphasizing the transformative effects of the RHI intervention programs on the lives of Ebonyi women. He reiterated his commitment to the development of women in the state, noting their significant contributions to its progress.
