To tap into the $16 billion African fertiliser market under the AfCFTA, Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is set to collaborate with Nigerian industry players.
The university aims to drive innovation, training, and research that will strengthen fertiliser production across Africa.
UM6P’s Chief of Staff, Khalid Baddou, revealed plans to support Nigeria’s fertiliser sector through capacity building and technology transfer, noting that the sector has seen over $15 billion in private investment recently. Key players like Dangote and OCP have helped grow local manufacturing.

With state-of-the-art labs and expertise in soil science and chemical engineering, UM6P will train a new generation of African fertiliser professionals through specialized programmes and exchange initiatives.
Bruno Gerard, Head of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, emphasized the need to boost technical skills to strengthen intra-African trade.
He said UM6P aims to be Africa’s leading centre for fertiliser innovation, also pushing research in crop resilience and extension services to support farmers in the digital era.
