At least six shops were destroyed in an early morning fire at the Kurmi (Yan’ Jagal) Market in Kano on Friday.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call around 1:35 a.m. from the Jakara police division and immediately dispatched a team to contain the fire.

“No lives were lost in the incident,” Abdullahi confirmed, noting that the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
The fire service has urged traders and residents to always switch off electrical appliances and disconnect power sources when not in use to avoid similar incidents.
