The World Bank, in collaboration with the federal government and IT firms, has successfully trained 496 young Nigerians in Web and Mobile App Development, including 218 males and 278 females.
At the launch and business pitching ceremony for the World Bank Digital Skills Development Programme in Abuja, Project Leader Ololade Awe highlighted the necessity of digital proficiency in today’s fast-changing world. Awe noted that the digital revolution has significantly transformed industries, economies, and societies, making digital skills essential for personal and professional success. She emphasized the importance of equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to navigate and lead in this evolving landscape.

“The World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Education are dedicated to fostering individual and societal development,” Awe stated. “This programme reflects their recognition of the importance of digital literacy. By offering extensive training in web and mobile app development, we aim to bridge the gap between current skills and future needs, fostering innovation and improving employability.”
National Project Coordinator Blessing Ehi Ogwu, represented by IGF Consultant Prof. Ndem Ayara, mentioned the competitive nature of the selection process for the Innovation Grant Facility (IGF) project, with over 150 organizations applying. Ogwu explained that the IGF is part of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project, supported by the World Bank. The initiative aims to equip young Nigerians, particularly women and persons with disabilities, with valuable digital skills to enhance their employability.
