BENIN – 60 poultry farmers from the states of Edo and Delta have received advanced training in poultry production methods from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The Ministry also gave each participant in the presidential program for food security a cartoon featuring day-old chicks and feeds.

Additionally, stipends were given to the farmers to make transportation easier.

The program, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, was designed to improve the standard of living for young people in Edo and Delta by empowering them and increasing their capacity.

Rose Igbinedion, a senior agricultural officer in the ministry, who was speaking on behalf of Umakhihe, said that small-scale farmers in Nigeria accounted for between 70 and 80 percent of the country’s agricultural output.
