The Federal Government has pledged to enhance cold chain infrastructure to improve food security and reduce post-harvest losses in Nigeria.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, made this known at the 7th West African Cold Chain Summit and Exhibition (WACCSE 2025) and the 10th Agrofood & Plastprintpack Nigeria Exhibition in Lagos.
He emphasized the need for innovative solutions to tackle challenges in the agricultural supply chain.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government, said Nigeria is positioned to become Africa’s largest consumer market by 2050.

He urged stakeholders to leverage opportunities in agribusiness, food processing, and packaging to drive sustainable growth.
Germany Commends Nigeria’s Agricultural Trade Progress
German Consul General Weert Börner expressed concern over rising food insecurity, affecting over 30 million Nigerians in 2024. However, he highlighted a major milestone—Nigeria’s agricultural exports, including cocoa, sesame, and cashew nuts, have surpassed imports for the first time in years. Experts predict a 10% annual growth in the country’s food market from 2025.
