The Federal Government has pledged financial support for two million women engaged in agribusiness activities across Nigeria.
The announcement was made concurrently with the presentation of bank drafts valued at N10 million each to the wives of state governor by Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President. The initiative aims to provide economic empowerment to women and youth farmers, facilitating food production and income generation.

Paul Ikonne, the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), disclosed this initiative in a statement released in Abuja. He emphasized NALDA’s commitment to partnering with the First Lady to empower women, especially young women, in the agribusiness sector. The agency has set aside resources to support two million women through this program.
The Renewed Hope Initiative, led by the First Lady, is a grassroots campaign designed to improve the livelihoods of Nigerians across the nation’s six geopolitical zones. Launched in Owerri, Imo State, the initiative aims to empower women farmers and combat poverty.
During her address, the First Lady stressed the importance of empowering women farmers, aligning it with the broader national agenda to fortify the agricultural sector. She underscored the pivotal role of agriculture and agribusiness in achieving sustainable development and food security.
As part of the initiative, the Federal Government will provide financial assistance of N500,000 each to 20 women farmers per state, totaling N10 million per state. Bank drafts worth N10 million each were presented to the first ladies of the Southeast states during the event, attended by dignitaries including the wife of the Vice-President, Nana Shettima, and wives of state governors.

In her remarks, the wife of the Imo State Governor and Zonal Chairman, South-East, Renewed Hope Initiative, Chioma Uzodimma, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and his wife for their support towards the success of the initiative. She emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment in building inclusive and prosperous communities.
The event also included the distribution of agricultural inputs to beneficiaries from the South-East, including maize seeds, liquid fertilizers, herbicides, and poultry birds, aimed at supporting their farming activities and boosting food production.
