On Friday, the Federal Government declared its willingness to significantly lower unemployment rates through widespread IT skill development to support the push for the digital economy.
It claimed that encouraging digital skills will help Nigerians achieve the present target of 90% digital literacy by 2030 and combat youth unrest and underemployment.
Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, provided the guarantee at the official Abuja launch of RespecTech, a human resources initiative created to provide Nigerian graduates with crucial tech skills, link them to global employment opportunities, and close the talent gap between tech talents and employers.
She claims that the Tinubu-led administration has established programs aimed at empowering the populace, lowering poverty rates, and fostering development.
The presidential advisor claimed that by working together, Nigeria can increase its foreign profits by matching up homegrown digital talent with potential employers around the world.
She stated, “The government is investing more in empowerment programs at various levels and doing a lot to provide digital skills so that our youths can be gainfully employed. You can see SMEDAN working hard to equip individuals with digital skills and then provide them with the computers and other necessities they need to succeed.
“You have a variety of other programs from various ministries that have been established by the government to encourage development in this nation, alleviate poverty, and empower individuals.

We have a number of programs with several ministries that are aimed at lowering the unemployment rate in the nation.
She continued by saying that Nigerians must position themselves by acquiring the necessary skills to compete with international innovators given the demand for tech talent on a global scale.
Oyewole Joledo, the Country Director for Social Good, noted earlier in his talk that the initiative’s goal is to close the skills gap and close the employment gap for young people in Nigeria by partnering with well-known businesses and people.
Oyewole voiced concern over the growing number of young people in Nigeria, many of whom lack the necessary skills to find work and compete on the global market.
He declared, “Technology is always changing businesses. It is a potent remedy for some of the biggest problems facing the world today.
However, skilled talent is the main engine behind any technical innovation. with a large pool of computer specialists, entrepreneurs, and creative thinkers. Nigeria may indeed create the digital future it deserves.
“Nigeria has a large population of young people and a wealth of intellectual capital. However, many of our brightest brains lack access to the resources they need to succeed.
Global digital organizations are struggling with severe skill shortages and a talent gap; these gaps and mismatches must be filled.
We are announcing the start of the reputable program to empower Nigerian youth and spur technology innovation.
“Through this initiative, three fundamental goals will be attained,” the country director continued. The first is to really reduce unemployment. In order to encourage Nigerians to launch more cutting-edge digital businesses and to create special economic zones with incentives to draw in foreign investors looking for tech expertise and ideas, the second goal is to enhance internally generated revenue in the near future.
According to the report, the panel discussion at the “Empowering Nigerian Youths for the Tech-driven Future” event, according to Ugamatv, included representatives from the National Youth Service Corps, National Directorate of Employment, Industrial Training Fund, Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, among other tech companies, to offer solutions to untapped opportunities and foreign engagements for Nigerian talent.
