The Federal Government has pledged to establish more gemstone and jewelry-making centres across Nigeria to support small businesses in the mining sector and promote local value addition.
Special Assistant to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Segun Tomori, said the initiative is designed to enhance entrepreneurship and unlock export opportunities within the jewelry industry.
During a visit to the Laurel School of Mining in Abuja, Minister Dr. Dele Alake praised the centre for its role in training artisans and producing high-quality jewelry that rivals international standards.

He affirmed that more centres will be launched across the country once the 2025 budget is implemented, adding that value-added products like finished jewelry could become a key source of foreign exchange for the country.
The school’s Managing Director, Tope Adebanjo, thanked the ministry for its support and called for continued collaboration to fully equip mining entrepreneurs with the skills and tools needed to thrive.
Dr. Alake welcomed the proposals and urged the centre to submit a detailed plan for further action.
