In a bid to enhance technical and vocational education across Nigeria, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, Abiola Arogundade, announced plans to distribute five million laptops to beneficiaries annually.

This initiative was unveiled during a donation of 50 laptops to students of Government Secondary School in the Federal Capital Territory.

The project, a public-private collaboration, is designed to foster technical education and vocational skills development among public school students. Addressing the students on Thursday, Arogundade emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and aims to equip young Nigerians with essential skills for the modern workforce.

“I am here with my team to donate tablets to 50 Junior Secondary School students as part of our mandate from the President to promote skills training among the next generation,” Arogundade stated. “President Tinubu has tasked federal agencies, including my office, with training no fewer than five million Nigerians annually in various skills. This initiative not only enhances employability but also empowers individuals to become self-reliant after graduation.”

The laptop donation, Arogundade explained, marks the second phase of a program that began in July of last year, focused on stimulating innovation in technical, vocational, and entrepreneurship education. “We must ensure our youth are prepared to compete in an increasingly technology-driven global economy,” she added.

Judith Okafor, representing Afrione Limited, the company providing the laptops, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to partner with the Federal Government. “This partnership with the Office of the SSA on Technical, Vocational & Entrepreneurship Education is a milestone for us. Afrione is excited to provide state-of-the-art tablets that will help these talented students excel in the digital age,” Okafor said.

The initiative aims to encourage high performance among public school students while developing the next generation of skilled professionals and entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
