FG, Plateau Governments support livestock reform

The Federal Government and the Plateau Government have reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing the livestock sector to bolster food and nutrition security.

During a meeting between the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, and Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Abuja on Wednesday, both parties emphasized the importance of collaboration to boost agricultural production and implement reforms in livestock management.

Minister Kyari highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s imminent livestock reform initiative aimed at revitalizing the sector and addressing longstanding challenges such as farmer-herder conflicts.

In addition to mitigating insecurity and climate change impacts, Kyari emphasized the need for concerted efforts with state governments and stakeholders to combat food insecurity amid shrinking land resources.

Governor Mutfwang affirmed Plateau’s commitment to partnering with the federal ministry to ensure food security, with plans to optimize the entire value chain of Irish potato production and prioritize rural development alongside livestock enhancement.
