The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to partner with Trans Sahara Consortium on its soybean and sugar projects, which it describes as a transformative initiative for Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
The ambitious projects aim to cultivate three million hectares of soybean and establish sugarcane processing plants to produce millions of tonnes of sugar for both domestic consumption and export.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, during a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from Trans Sahara Consortium Limited, led by its Chairman, Senator Ibrahim Tura. The discussions centered on the consortium’s plans for these significant agricultural ventures.

According to a statement from the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, these initiatives are expected to greatly enhance Nigeria’s agro-industry and tackle the nation’s trade deficit. They align with President Bola Tinubu’s strategic goals of bolstering food security and strengthening the agricultural sector.
Minister Edun emphasized that the Trans Sahara Consortium’s initiative is a pivotal development for Nigeria’s agricultural sector. “We are dedicated to supporting innovative projects that stimulate economic growth, promote food security, and empower Nigerian farmers,” he stated.
“This partnership marks a critical step towards realizing our vision for a prosperous Nigeria. We will collaborate closely with Trans Sahara Consortium Limited to ensure the successful implementation of these projects.”
The government’s interest in partnering with Trans Sahara Consortium underscores its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, which has the potential to enhance food security, reduce trade deficits, and empower local farmers.
