The Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with USAID’s Feed the Future program, has supported 311 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) since 2020, aiming to boost agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers. This was revealed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, during the National Agricultural Extension Service Impact-Sharing Workshop in Abuja.
Represented by Deola Lordbanjour, Director of Agricultural Extension, Kyari highlighted the initiative’s focus on delivering impactful business solutions, fostering growth, and enhancing market access for MSMEs and farmers. He emphasized that the collaboration had led to job creation for youth and women, while also promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Kyari further noted that the partnership had successfully transformed MSMEs into key players in the agricultural extension services sector, providing advisory services and improving farming practices. Jean-Pierre Rousseau, Director of Winrock International, praised the program’s role in bringing innovation to the agriculture sector, benefiting millions of smallholder farmers.
A farmer, Garba Salifu, shared that his earnings from maize farming increased significantly in 2023 due to the program’s support. USAID’s Dr. Ben Odoemena affirmed the program’s commitment to long-term sustainability.
