The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has introduced a dedicated USSD code, *829#, aimed at streamlining tax payment processes for Nigerians.
This initiative, which was unveiled by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji at the agency’s Revenue House in Abuja, is part of efforts to enhance the ease of doing business and improve taxpayer engagement and satisfaction.
Announcing the new service during the Customer Service Week themed “Above and Beyond,” Adedeji stated that Nigeria is now the sixth country in Africa to deploy a USSD code for tax administration.
The code allows taxpayers across all mobile networks to perform several tax-related activities, such as retrieving their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), verifying Tax Clearance Certificates, accessing information on tax types and rates, locating the nearest FIRS office, and addressing general tax-related inquiries all without the need for internet access.

“This USSD code ensures that every taxpayer, whether in urban centres or remote areas, can interact with FIRS seamlessly. It’s a testament to our commitment to making tax administration simple, efficient, and transparent,” Adedeji said.
Additionally, the agency launched a Customer Centricity Guide, which details the principles and procedures to be followed by FIRS in its engagement with taxpayers. The guide underscores the agency’s focus on placing taxpayers at the core of its service delivery and promoting a culture of professionalism and respect.
“By introducing the *829# USSD service and unveiling the Customer Centricity Guide, we are not just improving access to tax services, but also fostering a relationship built on trust and mutual respect,” Adedeji added, encouraging taxpayers to utilize the new service and share their feedback for continuous improvement.
The FIRS urges taxpayers to leverage the benefits of the USSD code for all their inquiries and interactions with the agency, as it strives to deliver excellence in tax administration and foster voluntary compliance.
