President Bola Tinubu has launched the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), aiming to create 2.5 million sustainable jobs in two years and transform the Ministry of Labour into a job creation hub.
At the Abuja event, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented Tinubu, described LEEP as the administration’s boldest move yet against youth unemployment. He stressed that Nigeria must embrace digital evolution and equip its youth with future-ready skills instead of seeking opportunities abroad.
“The digital revolution is changing everything. But within this disruption lies great opportunity—if we’re bold enough to seize it,” Shettima said.

Highlighting Nigeria’s demographic strength, he called on youths to “believe in Nigeria” and build careers locally, noting that Nigeria could surpass India’s $125 billion outsourcing industry due to its youth population and English proficiency.
Labour Minister Muhammad Dingyadi and Minister of State Nkeiruka Onyejeocha echoed the call, saying LEEP is designed to align education with market needs, promote self-employment, and transform the Ministry into a job-generating force.
An integrated digital job-matching platform and diaspora skills database were also announced to boost employment and innovation across the country.
