The Federal Government, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has initiated a comprehensive Agricultural Empowerment Programme. The scheme, spearheaded by the Kashim Shettima Foundation, aims to provide crucial support to farmers across the nation.
The official launch took place in Kaduna State, marking the distribution commencement of tractors, seeds, fertilizers, herbicides, and other vital farming inputs for the upcoming 2024 farming season. Vice President Shettima, speaking at the event, emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in Nigeria’s economy, acknowledging its substantial contribution to the GDP and its role as a primary employer for millions.

Despite challenges such as input shortages and limited access to finance, Shettima remains optimistic about the sector’s potential. He pledged to cultivate 500 hectares of land in Kaduna and provide financial assistance to beneficiaries and farmer cooperatives to establish commercial farms.
Governor Uba Sani, expressing support for the initiative, hailed the Vice President for choosing Kaduna State as the pilot location. He reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring the programme’s success.
Mallam Murtala Dabo, the Commissioner for Agriculture, lauded the scheme as a beacon of hope for youth and a catalyst for economic growth. Baba Kachallah, Chairman of the Kashim Shettima Foundation, outlined the programme’s comprehensive approach, including training for agropreneurs and the provision of essential resources ahead of the rainy season.
The initiative signals a concerted effort by the government to address the multifaceted challenges facing the agricultural sector while empowering farmers to thrive in their endeavors.
