FG, France reach a $116 million agreement to increase digital spending

The federal government has secured a major financial boost of $116 million from the French government to invigorate the digital entrepreneurship landscape in the country.

The announcement came via a social media post from Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, acting on behalf of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the government in the signing of the agreement with France.

This substantial funding injection is dedicated to advancing the “Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (I-DICE) program.” According to Tijani, the I-DICE program, overseen by the Vice President’s office, is aimed at empowering young Nigerians to create job opportunities in the digital and creative sectors.

France, represented by Ms. Catherine Colonna, Minister for European and Foreign Affairs, is contributing $116 million to the total funding pool, which amounts to $600 million. It’s important to note that this funding isn’t exclusive to France, as it will also receive support from various sources, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Islamic Development Bank, and the Bank of Industry (BOI).

Tijani expressed his gratitude for the collaboration and assistance of partners like France, emphasizing their commitment to achieving an inclusive and prosperous economy in alignment with the President’s vision.

This development is expected to have a significant positive impact on the digital and creative entrepreneurial landscape in the country, ultimately fostering economic growth and creating opportunities for the nation’s youth.
