The collaborative efforts between the Enugu State government and the federal government in transforming cassava into bioethanol are bearing fruit, as stated by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Mr. Patrick Ubru.
In a recent address at Okpanku in Aninri Local Government Area, he highlighted the intensified cultivation of cassava aimed at bolstering the economy, mitigating unemployment, and tackling insecurity.
During an inspection tour of cassava-bioethanol projects in Aninri, Isi-Uzo, and Udi local government areas, Mr. Ubru informed a Federal Government delegation about the cultivation of over one thousand hectares of cassava farms in these areas last year for the pilot phase of the project.

He emphasized the significance of reclaiming vast forested areas previously exploited by criminals for nefarious activities.
Furthermore, plans are underway for infrastructural development to support agricultural activities, including the construction of access roads and establishment of security measures like the Agro Rangers and a proposed military base. This multi-pronged approach aims to ensure safety in farmlands and stimulate agricultural productivity.
The commitment to women’s empowerment in agriculture was underscored by Mr. Olaifa Fatai, leader of the federal government delegation, who commended the state government’s efforts in this regard. He urged female cooperative farmers to leverage support programs provided by both state and federal governments.
The Enugu State Produce City in Isi Uzo Local Government Area stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to agricultural transformation. With allocations of land to farming enterprises like Ugwu Anama Farms Ltd, the state is fostering innovation through smart mechanization while generating employment opportunities for thousands of youths.
The project signifies a pivotal step towards revitalizing the agricultural sector in collaboration with private sector investors, as envisioned by Governor Peter Mbah.
