The Federal Government has successfully trained 541 youths in modern agricultural techniques to combat unemployment and foster self-reliance among Nigerian youth. The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Youth Development, focused on skills such as cassava processing, beekeeping, and fishery.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the program held at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre in Jos, Plateau State, the Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, emphasized the importance of equipping young Nigerians with entrepreneurial and agricultural skills.
“Our goal is for you to become employers of labour rather than job seekers. Youth in agriculture is a top priority for the Ministry of Youth Development. This program will continue to grow, and we are committed to supporting you in maximizing your potential,” Olawande said.

The training, which targeted participants from the North East, North West, and North Central regions, is part of the government’s broader strategy to empower the nation’s youth. The minister assured participants that their recommendations would be reviewed and implemented, stressing that the ministry is committed to following through on its promises.

Olawande highlighted the critical role of youth in nation-building, noting that they constitute over 70% of Nigeria’s population. “The future belongs to you, and it is imperative that we invest in your growth and development to ensure a prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

In his address, the Adagwom of Jos Izere Chiefdom, Emmanuel Ajik, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for prioritizing youth development and organizing the training. He urged the participants to apply their newly acquired skills to contribute to national development.
