President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to actively support his administration’s efforts to transition the country from a consumption-driven to a production-based economy.
Speaking at the 10th National Labour Summit and Award in Ilorin, Kwara State, Tinubu emphasized the need for collective participation in governance and economic production.
Represented by Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Tinubu said, “We must move from being a consuming economy to a producing one. Everyone must join the production hub to ensure that poverty is eradicated, and food is available for all Nigerians.”
The summit, themed “The Future of Work and Renewed Hope Reform Agenda: Issues and Perspectives”, served as a platform for dialogue on labour reforms and the administration’s economic agenda. Tinubu highlighted the importance of reconciliation, dialogue, and inclusive engagement in driving reforms, urging stakeholders to become co-architects of Nigeria’s recovery.

The President also referenced the recent historic resolution of the National Minimum Wage negotiations as proof of the government’s commitment to dialogue. However, he cautioned that industrial action should remain a last resort.
Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Issa Aremu, praised the institute’s achievements, including surpassing its 2024 training targets by impacting over 3,500 workers nationwide and expanding skill development in diverse fields such as carpentry and cinematography.
This call for a production-focused economy aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to engage all Nigerians in transforming the country’s economic landscape.
