In a bid to enhance food production in Edo State, the Federal Government has delivered 18,000 bags of fertilizer for the 2024 farming season.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to distribute 1.652 million bags nationwide.
Bako Dogwo, Chairman of the All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Edo, announced the development during a meeting in Benin City.
He revealed that these 18,000 bags, equivalent to 30 trucks, are a significant portion of the nationwide supply.
Dogwo highlighted that while the Federal Government has covered over 80% of the fertilizer’s cost, farmers will need to contribute at least 10% of the price.
For example, if a bag costs N20,000, farmers will pay N10,000. He also mentioned that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved additional fertilizers and agricultural inputs for the state.

The fertilizers are designated solely for active farmers, not for “portfolio farmers,” ensuring that genuine agricultural practitioners benefit from the program.
With over 40,000 registered members, Dogwo urged unregistered farmers to join AFAN and encouraged women to participate in affiliated programs for training and access to resources.
