Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education has started the first round of payments to trainees and training centres under its national TVET programme, a move expected to strengthen youth skills development and support MSME-linked job creation.
According to the Ministry, over 42,000 fully registered trainees have now received their monthly ₦22,500 stipend for upkeep as they progress through practical skills training. More than 600 independent training centres were also paid for services delivered, helping ensure continuity, quality, and steady programme rollout.

Officials described the disbursement as the first tranche in a wider plan tied to President Bola Tinubu’s directive to accelerate job-ready skills for young Nigerians. The TVET initiative, which moved rapidly from registration to hands-on sessions since May, is designed to produce new entrepreneurs, artisans, service providers, and technical talent needed to power small-business growth nationwide.
The Ministry said the timely payments will sustain training momentum while expanding opportunities for youth participation in sectors crucial to MSME productivity.
