In a bid to address the rising concerns around youth unemployment and foster social inclusion, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the establishment of a nationwide network of ‘Youth Houses,’ starting with Abuja. This initiative aims to serve as a hub for young people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
Mr. Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of State for Youth Development, made the announcement in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that this innovative platform will provide much-needed opportunities for the nation’s youth to showcase their talents and develop essential life skills.
He noted that, beyond the Federal Capital Territory, the plan includes the construction of Youth Houses in all 774 local government areas across the country. “The Youth House will serve as a meeting point where young people from different walks of life can converge, interact, and explore their identities and passions,” Olawande said.
According to Olawande, the Youth Houses are part of a broader vision to offer young Nigerians a platform for personal growth. “This has been a long-standing demand from various youth stakeholders, and now, thanks to the president’s commitment, the youths’ vision for such a landmark is being realized,” he added.
The initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with critical life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication, while also fostering a sense of community and social responsibility.

The minister highlighted that the project will not be limited to Abuja alone but will be implemented nationwide, ensuring youth engagement at the grassroots level. Each state will have a corresponding Youth Centre, while local government secretariats will house smaller-scale Youth Green Houses to ensure the federal government’s presence and support in every corner of the country.
Olawande also emphasized that the project will be executed in partnership with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the private sector, ensuring a robust and sustainable platform for youth empowerment.
He lauded President Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to youth development through the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has placed youth issues at the forefront of national policy. “This initiative marks a significant step towards bringing government closer to the youth and ensuring inclusivity in the administration’s youth programmes and policies,” Olawande remarked.
Detailed plans for the implementation and operation of the Youth House, including its organogram and functions, will be revealed soon.
This initiative stands as a significant part of the government’s strategy to tackle youth unemployment, foster national unity, and promote positive engagement among Nigeria’s youth.
