In a significant relief effort, the Federal Government has disbursed ₦25,000 conditional cash transfers to 25 million Nigerians, aiming to alleviate the hardships caused by recent subsidy removals and economic reforms.
This development was disclosed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, following Thursday’s National Economic Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Edun revealed that five million households have benefited from the cash transfer program. He also reported that the government has distributed ₦3.5 billion to 11,000 recipients over the past five days under a consumer credit scheme.
In addition, more than ₦90 billion has been allocated to approximately half a million students through the national student loan initiative, underscoring the administration’s commitment to expanding financial support across the country.

Alongside these economic reliefs, the NEC addressed the devastating impacts of recent flooding, which has claimed 321 lives across 34 states. Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, shared that over 1.2 million people have been displaced, with more than a million homes and extensive farmlands damaged.
Soludo noted the council’s deep concern for affected families and announced ongoing efforts to provide additional assistance and improve flood response measures.
As the government works to mitigate these dual crises, these relief measures signal a concerted push to support struggling households and foster resilience in communities nationwide.
