George Akume, the SGF, is assuring Nigerians of the government’s measures to lessen the suffering caused by the increase in the price of fuel.
The cost of the good has increased since the fuel subsidy was eliminated. Since President Bola Tinubu declared that the “subsidy is gone,” the price of fuel, which was formerly sold for roughly N190 per liter, has increased to between N600 and N700.
The change has drawn criticism, but Akume asserts that the administration is aware of these worries.
He reminded everyone that His excellency president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived with a plan, and knows what he is doing, he has nourished this vision and he is finally bringing it to life in his tweet on Sunday.
“I want to remind everyone that @officialABAT arrived prepared and with a strategy as our squad begins to take shape. He knows to act, and he is. The Asiwaju Plan is the result of decades of him nurturing this vision and is now being realized. Tweeted, Dr. George Akume, (@SGFAkume)
“As a government, we have heard your complaints regarding fuel price hikes, and be assured that we are working around the clock to restore normalcy and provide comforting solutions. The kind of life you deserve when you wake up is our responsibility. We are now on track, he continued.
He also stated that the subsidy regime is regressive and the nation needed to get rid of it.
“Know that yearly subsidy payments resulting from inefficiencies in the oil and gas value chain stood at a staggering $11b during this regressive subsidy system that recently ended. It could not continue, thus something needed to be done. The President informed us of this decision and his decisiveness from day one,” he stated.
Nevertheless, he pleaded with Nigerians to exercise patience, saying that “we are already working out procedures to guarantee market forces moderate pricing while we push policies that better your life and increase your earning potential. I beg you to have faith in the process because we have a clear plan for economic recovery.
When questioned by our correspondent, a sales executive named Miss Christiana Okpe claimed that, if fuel prices are reduced, it would be easier for her and her colleagues to conduct sales tasks outdoors rather than staying indoors.
